5 Months old!

I can't believe that Silas is already 5 month old! He is becoming such a big boy!

He is officially a roller and easily goes from back to belly.

He is also a side sleeper! He likes to sleep on his left side, just like mommy and daddy.

During tummy time he is scooting all over the place. He is always moving around! When in his bouncer he is non stop until he wears himself out. At Mema and Papa's house he has a walker and he can make that thing move! I can't believe how mobile he became and so quickly!

Silas is rapidly growing out of his clothing! He started wearing 9 month clothing recently and already some of them are getting too snug! He is growing too quickly! We've also had to buy more of them because we anticipated him being in 9 month clothes when it was a bit cooler. Between the unusually warm weather and the fact he's growing so quick I don't even know if he'll get to wear any of those warmer clothes before they don't fit anymore!

We'll be seeing Dr. Jones next month for his 6 month check up and I'm excited to see his growth.

We have been super busy so far this month. Josh and I celebrated our two year anniversary and we took Silas to two different zoos! I'll get those photos up soon. This coming weekend we'll be going to the pumpkin patch and then it will be Halloween. I hadn't planned on taking Silas out, but we might go to Boo at the Zoo, go trick or treating with Auntie Andi and Uncle John's half siblings.

Its hard to believe that the holidays are quickly approaching and soon we'll be celebrating Thanksgiving, going to Kentucky, and celebrating Silas' first Christmas!

Davis Family Photos

The Davis Family got together to have family photos done this weekend, because Grandpa Great was in town to meet Silas for the very first time!

Silas was an unhappy camper the entire time. The photographer tried and tried to get him to smile and laugh, but he was not having it.

Even though he loves his Mema and Papa Joe, he really didn't want to be held. He would not sit down on any one's lap, nor did he want anything to do with the bottle, the camera, or any of the toys and attempts we made to make him smile.

This is not my favorite picture at all, but Silas' half cry, looked like a smile and my dad was set on having a generational picture done.

When it came to having picture of Silas done, I suggested laying him on his tummy. It was a lot easier to get him to smile doing the things he likes to do.

Still, not quite smiling, but at least we got him to look at the camera.

Can you tell that we were all a little strained by the stressful ordeal of pictures?

This was one of the few pictures he smiled for. He was not happy being changed into his Halloween costume, but I'm glad we did because this was the best shot the entire shoot.

Unfortunately rescheduling was not an option since Grandpa Great left town today. Josh and I plan to try again in a few months and coming in first thing in the morning when he is the happiest.

The poor baby was tired, had been at a birthday party prior to this and was not please being passed around at all. He is so very much his mother's child. I too get grumpy doing things that I don't like.

October already!

Silas is punching September out of the way! He is ready for the cooler weather, just like mommy and daddy.
Silas spend most days in just a diaper because it's still so warm... that and most of his 6 month clothes don't fit very well. He has a long torso and almost all of his sleepers and onesies are too sung to be comfortable.
Silas says "Yo daddy, clean up your office. I can't hang out in this mess!
Silas enjoys standing up so much, that he uses his bouncer on a daily basis. He can't get enough of making use of his strong legs!
This month has been tough, because there are some teeth that are trying to burst through his gums. Daddy is trying to preoccupy Silas from his sore mouth.
But not even daddy can make the pain go away. It makes daddy sad too.
But, with some effort, and lots of funny noises, Silas can go from sad, to glad!
This picture makes daddy happy. Silas will probably know more about computers than mommy does in the matter of years.
Silas' lip sucking grin cracks us up!
Silas naps easily in his bassinet, but only if he is really tired.
More often he is ready to play with mommy or daddy!
Silas loves carrots! They are one of his favorites.
mmm, they are yummy!

Silas is a hard worker!

The last few days Silas has worn himself out in his bouncer.
The first tome he conked out Josh got out the camera.

I really didn't have the heart to move him, but I did and it woke him up.

We have also been venturing into fruits and veggies.

Silas loves sweet potatoes! They are his favorites by far!
He also enjoys apple sauce and prunes!
He is not a big fan of pears or peaches yet.
Our next try will be squash and then on to carrots and peas!

Oh the things he can do!

On Tuesday last week I woke up to see my baby on his tummy! I thought maybe it was a fluke, but after I fed him and put him back down for the rest of the night he did it again!

I haven't caught him rolling during tummy time yet, but I'm watching him lots to see if he'll prove me wrong!

He is scooting himself around though. He has been using his strong legs to kick and propel himself backwards. He isn't quite able to do it on him tummy though. All of his scooting has been on his back.

Silas is also slowly growing out of his 6 month clothes. There are several onesies and sleepers that are just too small. It seems like I just put away all of his 3 month outfits!

Four month appointment

We had Silas' four month appointment last week.

He is 26 inches long and weighs 14lbs 15.8oz.

He is now in the 90th percentile for height and 75th percentile for weight.

Over all Dr. Jones is very pleased with his growth and the milestones he is making.

I told her about his dislike for rice cereal and she said to keep trying at it and also to start introducing stage one fruit and veggies. So far we've only had apple sauce and rice cereal. Mema gave him pears last night and he wasn't sure if he liked them or not.

Here is the video of us feeding him apple sauce.

His bedtime routine is more or less the same, however he tends to fall asleep earlier and wakes up earlier now. Most mornings he is up around 5 to eat and then lays back down for at least an hour before getting up to play. This is without his swaddler because the wiggle worm can now roll over and we don't want him to be stuck without his hands to help him.

some recent pictures of Silas!

Rice Cereal

We decided to give rice cereal a try this morning! Silas was not too thrilled to be sitting in his high chair. He seemed a little nervous to be honest!

He was also not thrilled with the rice cereal!

Most of it ended up being spit out and cleaned off of his sleeper suit or placed back in his mouth.

We continued to attempt feeding him, but eventually he was so frustrated he started crying, so we gave him is bottle and he was much happier.
So much for the cereal; we'll have to try again!

Splahs pads and library visits

Silas and mommy have been trying to get out of the house more often so that we don't become recluses!

Today we met up with friends Liz and Taelyn at the Rio Vista community park and went to the splash pad. Of course I forgot to bring my camera, but we had such a fun time! Taelyn walked cautiously through the puddles and occasionally was surprised by the random water features while I carried Silas around. He seemed to enjoy the misters and the shower heads the most. We sat in a few puddles, but the water was too unpredictable so Silas held on for dear life after being hoisted back on my shoulder.

After we splashed around and dried off we headed over to the play ground and Silas ate and fell asleep as Taelyn played on the slides and chased birds away from her lunch! Liz got to hold sleepy Silas while I pushed Taelyn on the swings. It was a fun morning, and both kiddos fell asleep as we headed for home. Hopefully we'll be able to do this more often!

Tonight Silas and I head over to the Glendale Library for PJ Story time. Maybe I'll remember to snap a few pictures while we are there!

Josh's sneak attack

Neither Josh or I can manage to get Silas to smile or coo on camera or video. As soon as he sees either he gets the most serious look on his face. Josh managed to trick Silas into thinking the camera was put away. You can't really see him, but you hear him!

Silas Videos

Silas is getting so big! He no longer fits in most of his 3 month clothes and he isn't even 3 months yet!

We've taken some video of Silas over the last few days...

Here is a one of him snoring... I can't manage to get one of him cooing because as soon as he sees the camera he stops!

Here is another of him in his new bouncer. It was a gift from Bubby's friend Calvin in Illinois. Asher is enjoying the fact that he can kiss Silas so easily. His bouncer is now on the other side of the gate we have up to keep Asher out of the living room. Silas is very clever and has figured out how to get the music to come on! He does the same thing with the toys on his bouncing chair in Daddy's office.

Now that we've figured out to record video and post on the blog, there will be many more to come!

Two Month Appointment

Silas had his two month appointment today.

He grew 2 inches and gained almost 3 whole pounds

Current weight: 12lbs 4oz

Current height: 25 inches

He is in the 50th percentile for weight and 95th for height.

Poor little guy got two shots, one in each leg, and an oral medication.

He's been spending the rest of the day by sleeping.

Swimming at Mema and Papa Joe's house

This week we decided to take Silas for a dip in the pool.

Mema and Papa Joe have a salt water pool in their back yard and a huge tree that provides a lot of shade over the shallow end. We outfited Silas in his adorable sea lion swim diaper and slathered him with sun screen. He was not a fan of the sunscreen.

Aunt Andi took pictures while we tested out the water. It was nice an warm from baking in the sun, but not too hot. It was like a bath and Silas seemed to have enjoyed it.

Papa Joe came out and decided to come swimming too. He had a lot of fun with Papa as he swished him around and splashed water at him.

We swam for about an hour. Half way through he decided he didn't want to lay in the water and we kept him upright. He kicked his legs and bobbed his head up and down. He even decided to dip his head in a few times and wasn't scared of the water at all. The salty taste was a lot different and he would smile and coo and try to get more in his mouth.

Professional Silas

Mema and Aunt Andi bought Silas a scull and cross bone outfit even before we knew he was a boy. They have been talking about getting pictures done ever since. Of course he didn't fit in it right away so we had to wait. He's getting so big and at 8 weeks he finally fit into so we took him down to a studio near by.

We started off in a bit of a bad mood, but after switching our session with another family and feeding him, he was much happier.

Mema and I ended up buying several poses. These are only a sample of what was taken. And don't worry there are plenty of copies to send to Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and cousins!

By far one of my favorites, and Mema's too.

I don't believe we bought any of this pose, but I love the yawning!

This pose was free and they finished the photo by having his face in black and white and the color present.

He wasn't very happy on the pillow so I got down with him and talked and made faces. Once again he became my happy boy. I love when he looks at me like this.

I can't believe how grown up he looks in this one....

Note to grandparents: you get an 8x10 of this pose!
